My name is Deborah Rattie....thank you for stopping by my webpage to visit my Labs online....hopefully you will like what you see and will  come to meet them in person sometime....visitors are always welcome with prior notice....my kennel is located in south-eastern Ontario about halfway between Belleville and Kingston (approx. 2 hrs from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal)....

For more information about my dogs, to reserve a puppy or if you have any questions please contact me at:  freehavenkennels@msn.com

*** all breeding dogs are certified clear for hip and elbow dysplasia...they all have Optigen A  Normal / Clear certificates (this is a DNA test done to rule out progressive Retinal Atrophy which is a blinding eye disease~this means that they do not have the disease and can not pass it on to their offspring) as well they get their eyes checked annually by a Veterinarian  Opthalmologist...plus regular veterinary overall checkups and vaccinations....

Cutter, Tyler, Arturo, Gracie, Tillie and Brie all received their clearances for RD/OSD.  This is one of the latest DNA testing that has become available to us breeders to help insure we're breeding the healthiest puppies possible.  (A clear means these dogs will never develop the
OSD-associated form of RD (Retinal Dysplasia-retinal folds). There are
many forms of RD in the Labrador Retriever. A Normal result
for this test does not mean the dog will never develop RD however other
forms of RD in the breed are likely to be considered insignificant
compared to RD/OSD.

Significance for breeding: Genetically Normal RD/OSD dogs can be bred to
any dog and will not produce dogs showing severe OSD disease (dwarfism and
blindness). Genetically Normal RD/OSD dogs may produce dogs with retinal
folds (RD) if bred to mates that carry the RD/OSD mutation.

Puppies are life long commitment so make sure you're prepared to give your new companion a loving, interactive home for the next 12-15 years...

The purchase price is the cheapest part of having a dog.  Like kids, there can be all manner of minor boo-boos all the way to fatal diseases and crippling health problems.  When you buy a puppy even from the most respected breeders, you are taking on the risks that come with all living beings.  Responsible breeders have taken advantage of what modern diagnostics tools are readily available ~ x-ray certification of the hips and elbows, Ophthalmologist testing, DNA testing, studying of pedigrees, etc.  In spite of all this there will always be a chance of a problem.  We breeders have no crystal balls that allow us to see which puppies will be affected so in spite of all our careful screening, health issues will occasionally occur .  It is strongly recommended that you have pet health insurance (your puppy will come with 6 weeks free insurance) for at least the first two years.  Also do some research to find a good veterinarian and don't be afraid to get a second opinion.

Please read my contracts.
